Land has been identified on the edge of Barkway and proposed by North Hertfordshire District Council Planning Officers as suitable for building up to 174 new homes.
This would swell the village by 60% in 2-3 years. We, the village, accept the need to develop new properties in a proportionate manner, and with regard to the character of the village. We support, as proven by our draft Neighbourhood Plan, developing around 34 homes on sites BK 1 and BK2. However we strongly object to the overdevelopment of site BK3, an plot of 7.76 hectares which could offer up to 140 homes in a short time scale.
The Preferred Land Options has not yet been approved by The Planning Inspectorate yet, already developers are preparing plans for Planning Applications on this site, which is owned by 2 different land owners. We, Battle for Barkway, wish to resist this with the maximum of our efforts, and to stop this site being developed, removing from our skyline the unspoiled Chiltern Ridge and creating a large unsustainable housing estate on perfectly good grade 2 agricultural land.
This site is our conduit to you, the public, who are empowered by their voice of objection to stop this action when plans are published and go to public consultation
